My current AM skincare routine [JAN 2018]

I think 2017 has been the year of great discoveries in terms of skincare for me. I was interested in skincare before, but I feel like in 2017 I’ve invested more time and resources to perfect my knowledge and skincare needs. I’ve learnt that more products or big splurges don’t necessarily mean better results for the skin. It was the year of The Ordinary, of finding korean skincare brands and principles and also listening to my day to day skin needs. It helped me a lot with finding a balance in my AM skincare routine.

I tend to read a lot of reviews prior to actually purchasing something, I make wishlists and lists and only then I actually take the plunge and buy it. This helps me avoid buying things on a whim and allows me to focus on what I actually need (or desperately want to try out). My skin is normal to combination, sometimes tending to be sensitive. It doesn’t break me a lot, but when I add ingredients it doesn’t like, it acts up. My objective is to keep my skin fresh, wrinkle free, plump, hydrated and luminous… not much, huh?!

My AM Skincare Routine

1. Cleanse: I wake up, wash my face with water and them use either the COSRX Low-PH Facial Cleanser or the Bioderma Atoderm Shower Oil. Both products are repurchases – the oil from Bioderma I actually like getting the huge 1 l bottle as it’s perfect for the whole body. This step helps to get rid of any dirt, sebum or left products from over the night and provide a clean canvas for the next products. Both products are super gentle and don’t leave my skin stripped or dehydrated.

2. Tone: This is my favourite part: I call it the layering part. It consists of adding very light textures to my skin, with different functions, hoping my skin gets what it needs and remains plump and happy. I especially love using 3 products here – either all together or not, if time doesn’t allow me to wait between layers. I usually go first for the Andalou Naturals Clementine + C Illuminating Toner. It comes with a pump and offers a fine fresh citrusy mist. I love citrusy smells, so this comes as a plus, but fragrance is not a plus for everybody. It contains a blend of beneficial antioxidants and anti-irritants. I follow with Secret Key Rose Floral Softening Toner. This is a very watery texture and it’s a newly added to my routine. So far, so good. But I need more time to have an opinion about it. And thirdly, my favorite toner is the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. This has a mild scent and slightly thicker consistency, which I love. It feels like it calms everything, makes peace with any dry patches and saves my skin.

3. Moisturize: After my toners are applied/layering is complete, usually my skin is quite happy and feels like it does not need further moisturizing. But in most cases, I follow up with a light moisturizer or a serum. I am drawn to Ceramidin & COSRX Snail 96 power essence most of the time.

4. Sunscreen: Sunscreen is a must all year round. You may not like the products that I use or choose otherwise, but please always make sure to wear sunscreen. It’s one of the best things you can do to your skin. Now, lessons aside, I usually use sunscreens with SPF 30 or higher (during summer, definitely 50). My favorites are: FREZYDERM SPF 50 Velvet Face Sunscreen, due to its gel like, quick absorbing texture. It’s a bit silicone-y, but glides beautifully on the face and hasn’t caused me any skin problems. Another favorite would be the Uriage Bariesun Ultra Light Fluid SPF50+. Tiny practical bottle, no white cast, no greasy feeling afterwards.

4.1. Sunscreen+tint= BB Creams – Now this was a great discovery for me, as I’ve used asian BB Creams with SPF incorporated A LOT. They are definitely what I choose especially during colder months. First (and probably most loved) is the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+, Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+, shade 21. It’s perfect. Evens my skin tone, looks natural, doesn’t cake my skin, protects and gives a healthy glow (I’ve converted my mother to it as well and we’ve used up 2 of them already). Second one was more of a I need that free shipping, what else should I buy?. I had no expectations whatsoever, I chose it based on the brand and I liked it SO much! It’s the Holika Holika Petit BB Cream, SPF 30, the Moisturizing version. I think they changed the packaging on this one, though.

I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe even learnt something or found new stuff to try out. I will also write a post on my PM routine, so in case you want me to mention something which wasn’t mentioned here, drop me a comment below.

whaaa.. uriage? La mine se vede ca si cum m-as scalda in ulei. Poate ar merge daca l-as pune direct pe fata, fara nimic sub. Dar peste orice crema e prea uleios.. asa ca l-am transformat rapid in SPF pentru maini 😀

Hey Romina, ai incercat sa-l agiti bine inainte sa-l aplici?
